Today is Philippines’ 117th year of independence. Google joins the country in celebrating this historical day with a special doodle which you can view it via Google.com.ph homepage.
This year’s Independence Day doodle depicts the Philippine Flag, with the sun and three stars standing for one “O” of the company’s logo. The letters also make use of the colors of the flag.

“Ang diwa ng kultura namin ay naisasalin at ang kaalaman ay made-develop pa kung kaya’t ilang henerasyon man ang magdaan, ang kultura namin ay buhay pa rin. Ang kaalaman at ang kasanayan ay nagmula mismo sa kanila [mag-aaral na Tboli] upang matuto na silang makihalubilo sa mundo,” said Benji Manuel, a Tboli teacher at Tboli Senior High School (TSHS).

“If you think about it, every part of the kitchen is dangerous,” says RJ Buenaventura, Philips General Manager for Consumer Lifestyle. “You have flammable materials, oil, and electrical equipment. Without proper precaution, the place can be the site of a lot of accidents.”

In ensuring the safety of students and teachers, the Department of Education (DepEd) convened with its officials, principals, Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) coordinators from the National Capital Region and CALABARZON, and representatives from Phivolcs to boost readiness of the schools along the East and West Valley faults.
Education Secretary Br. Armin Luistro FSC underscored the importance of strong leadership in disaster preparedness, “As principals, you are the leaders on the ground. While it is not in your job description, I know it is ingrained in your heart: to take care of school, students, and teachers during disasters.” He added that school heads need to be prepared and to have a “strong heart and clear head” during any disasters.
